GENERAL FREYBERG

Sir, —In the Herald of February 20 in a cable from London announcing investitures by King Edward, Major-Gen-eral B. E. Frevborg, V.C., is included as a New. Zealander. General Freyberg is an Englishman by birth, parentage and domicile. During his childhood and until his attainment of manhood, lie resided in Wellington; about 25 years ago he left New Zealand and joined the Mexican Army, and upon the outbreak of the Great War ho joined the British Army, of which he is still an officer. He has not seen New Zealand for 25 years, and lie resided in New Zealand for a shorter period than that. His temporary residence in this Dominion does not constitute him a New Zealander. F.lt.
