RACE TO KAWAU

YACHT SQUADRON EVENT an excellent start The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron's annual cruising race to Kawau for Admiral Blake's trophy started off King's Wharf at 7 o'clock last evening. The entries and handicaps were as follows: —lorangi, Thelma, scr; Tawera, 4m; Ngatoa, ltawene, 7m; Waitangi, 16m 30s; Prize, 18in; Victory, 20in; Little Jim, 21m; Waiomo, Moana, 23m; Waione, 30m 30s; Ilex, 32m; Ladye Wilma, 34m 30s; Ida, 37mj Kotiri, 38m; Rambler, 39m; Altair, 43m; Windward, 48m 30s; lona, Mahaki, 60m; Kotuku,, 71m; Vectis, 78m; Janet, 92m; Peri, IOOm. The start was an excellent one, all the boats getting well away together in a light north-westerly breeze. Waione was first across the line and was closely followed by Ngatoa, Ladye Wilma, Rawene, Ida, Hex, Waitangi, Altair, lorangi, Victory and Tawera, with the others handy. The direction of tho wind gave tlio boats a close haul down the harbour gnd soon after tho start Ladye Wilma went into the lead, followed by Rawene with Ngatoa next. Ida, Ladye Wilma and Rawene worked tho middle of the harbour and made better progress than the rest of the fleet, which kept on the northern shore. Off Devonport Ladye Wilma was still in chargo and when the Sandspit beacon was reached she had a commanding lead from Rawene and Ngatoa. Tho order passing the Sandspit beacon was: —Ladye Wilma, Rawene. Ngatoa, Ida, lorangi, Little Jim. Moana, Waione. lona, Waitangi, Victory, Waiomo, Windward, Altair. Rambler, Kotiri, Mahaki, Ilex, Tawera, Prize, Thelma, Janet, with Vectis last. After passing North Head all stood across the channel to the Rangitoto shore, whore the boats experienced a better breeze. They then broke tacks for the beat to Mansion House Bay, Ivawau.

At an early hour this morning, no news had been received in Auckland of the finish of the race.

REGATTA AT KAWATJ ANNUAL FIXTURE TO-DAY The Yacht Squadron's annual regatta mil ho hold at Kftwau to-day, the flagship being the schooner .vacht Morewa, owned by Mr. Ernest Davis. The ladies' race, the first prize for which has been presented by Mr. Davis, will start at 10 a.m. In the afternoon a race will be held for first, division yachts for a prize presented by the commodore. Mr. A. 10. Gifl'ord' This will be followed by a race for second division yachts, tho first prize being the Borthon Barrel and also a trophy presented by Mr. Gilford.

A dance will bo held at Mansion House, Kawau. this evening, when the placed boats in the ladies' race will receive their prizes.
