THEFT OF FOUR RINGS
EMPLOYER'S HOUSE ENTERED YOUNG MAN SENT TO PRISON $ [FROM OUR OWN CORRKSI'ONDEXT] HAMILTON, Monday Three charges of theft were admitted by Robert Brigham, aged 29, farm hand, in the Hamilton Police Court today. The articles involved included four finger rings, an overcoat, a quantity of benzine and somo tools. A benzine tin and a length of hose were produced as exhibits. Detective-Sergeant Thompson led evidence to show that accused, while employed by Mr. J. J. A incent, of Bruntwood, entered his employer's house during the absence of the occupants and stole the rings. Other articles were taken from the property of Mr. F. R. Wilkinson, of Ngahinapouri. Accused had previously been convicted. Ho had a motor-car and the tin and hose produced was used for syhoning benzine. Accused asked for a sentence of hard labour. The magistrate, Mr. S. L. Paterson, said tho leniency previously extended to accused had not been appreciated. Accused was sentenced to one month's imprisonment on two minor counts and to reformative detention for a period rot exceeding two years ou the charga of stealing the rings.
