WORK AT TRENTHAM

GOOD SIX BY CUDDLE LIKELY HANDICAP FANCY INJURY TO ARCTIC KING [by TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WELLINGTON. Tuesday As usual, there is littlo or nothing at ■present on the Trentham tracks to indicate the fnct that an important meeting is only a few days off. This morning thero were only a few visitors exercising, and the 'gallops were confined to one or two local stables. The tracks arc in splendid order, being firm, with a good solo of grass. The weather was cold, overcast and threatening, with a northerly wind, and, whijo the forecast is unfavourable, tho tracks could stand a littlo rain between now and the races. Galloping this morning was done on the trial grass. Cuddle was given a smart six furlongs gallop with Princess Dorcon. The latter was of no use to her, Cuddle finishing well clear in 1.17, the Inst half in 525. Cuddle has improved with her race at Masterton, and she will probably start favourite for tho Wellington Handicap. Tho Hawko's Bay trainers, who know her well and saw her at Masterton, said they never saw her looking so bright and well. Princess Doreen went badly. Sunee and Arctic King were together at the end of seven furlongs in 1.32, the last half in 52}s. Sunee had the outsido running, but was in receipt of some weight. Both went well, finishing strongly. Arctic King struck himself during the gallop and was bleeding profusely behind afterwards, but it is not likely to be serious, unless the leg fills. Reverse Way of Going Arctic King failed badly in the Mitcholson Cup, but the reverse way round is considered to be the reason, and he was off the course on the homo turn. His Auckland display was far from being his'right form. Sunoo has been running on at the end of his races except at Otaki, where he was run out in front. Ho is a likely light-weight to surprise one of these.days in a distance handicap. The two-year-olds had tho use of the outside of the course proper, and ran down in the following pairs:—Brabant and Eagle's Eye from tho five furlongs, and Siegmund and Emmeline Girl and Cricket and Deficit from the half-mile. Brabant and Siegmund -have improved with their race at Masterton. Other gallops were Ayresleigh seven furlongs in 1.33}, Darecourt and Gate Crasher six in 1.16}, Meritor seven in 1.37; Dampier and Going Gay six in 1.17, Otauru King six in I.lß}, Boomerang four in 50s, and Dark Bed and Blue Bell four in 51s. Big Dook Of! Colour Visitors out wero Big Dook, Vanestep, Lifeguard, Gasman, Pokiha and Isms. All wero restricted to easy work. Big Dook, who rather unexpectedly started favourite for tho Vivian Riddiford Memorial Cup at Masterton, in ■which he ran a creditable race, has not dono at all well on the trip. Tho journey from Gisborne to Masterton was done in two days, and it was too much for him. He has since been right off his feed, but he may pick up now that he is settled at Trentham. Tho light-weight horseman R. W. Savage has been engaged for Senior, Bodyline and Ayresleigh at the Wellington meeting. Ho will ride Sunee in the New Zealand Cup and Sea Fox in tho Stewards' Handicap: WANGANUI CANDIDATES GOOID EFFORT BY MIDIAN [BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] WANGANUI. Tuesday Five Wanganui horses engaged at Trentham next Saturday were sent against the watch this morning. The.v galloped on No. 1 track, on which tho sole of grass is much thicker than was tha caso a month ago, henco the fact that the times wero more than a second slower than earliqr in ? the season should be taken into consideration. . , _ Moquetto and Imposture jumped olt a couple of lengths ahead of Midian for a spin over four furlongs, which took* them 49 4-ss. They ran the .first furlong in 12s, at which stage Midian had run up to them, and the quarter was reached in 24 l-ss. At the encl Midian boat Moquetto by a long neck, with Imposture two lengths further back. It was a good gallop, on the part of Midian, and Moquetto's effort was also pleasing, for the Limond filly was not stretched right out. Spiral and Tho Image were associated over seven furlongs in 1-31, finishing together. The first two furlongs took 26s and the half-mile o2s. Spiral appears to be very well and has, improved considerably as a result of his Ellerslie efforts. The Wanganui contingent will leave for Trentham on Thursday. AUCKLAND RACING CLUB THE SUMMER PROGRAMME The committee of the Auckland Racing Club yesterday adopted for the coming summer meeting at EilGrslio the same programme as last year, with the following exceptions:—Tho Gloucester Steeplechase, on tho first day, is to bo replaced by tho Grafton Hurdle Race, of £350, two miles; and the Sussex Steeplechase, on the fourth day, is to be replaced by the Auckland Hurdles, of £350, two miles. Tho special condition attaching to the Waitemata Handicap, on the second day, regarding maximum distance or races won by starters, has been deleted and the event if* now a hack handicap of one and a-quarter miles, maximum weight 9st. Total stakes for the four days amount to £14,375. MOUNTS AT TRENTHAM Jockeys have been engaged for Trentham on Saturdav as follows: —• A. E. Ellis. —Fracas, Wild Chase, Vintage. _ A. <J.
