WAIKATO HUNT RACES

THE JUBILEE MEETING PROSPECTS FOR MONDAY GOOD FIELD IN STEEPLES By ARCHEII Excellent acceptances have been received for tho Wailcato Hunt Races at Cambridge on Monday, and tho prospects for a successful diiy s racing are bright. Tho occasion will mark the jubilee meeting of the Waikato Hunt Club, tho first having been held on October 17, 1885, and a largo attendance of racing and hunting folk is anticipated. The win and place system of betting will be in operation, and the first race is timed to start at noon. A special train will leave Auckland at 7.4 a.m., leaving the racecourse on the returrt at 5.43 p.m. A good field of 14 is carded for the Waikato Hunt Jubileo Cup, tho chief event, and in spite of tho fact that some of the - candidates have other engagements and there may bo a lew defections, a fine contest should bo assured. Tho topwoight Cardhu fell at his last start, but ho is usually a very reliablo fencer and a good effort may be expected from him. Clan Ronald's latest performances have not been impressive, and Golden England has no recent form. Capella Abbey is a safo jumper, but ho has reached the ago of 12, and is not likely to bo improving. Form ol Prosy Boy Tho Hawke's Bay candidate Prosy Boy has performed consistently well since he commenced racing, his latest efforts being to win tho Pakuranga Hunt Cup with 10.7 and finish second in tho Egmont-Wangauui Hunt Cup with 11.13. On tho latter occasion ho was defeated by Petrarch, whom ho now meets on 121b. better terms. However, Petrarch has shown improvement in tho meantimo, and ho should not be out of it, evon though the figures are in favour of Prosy Boy.'Still, tho best has not yet been seen of Prosy Boy and he is a fine jumper whoso prospects are distinctly good. Cromwell, Ardmanning, Zano Grev„ En Tour and Semiarch are all capable of good performances in tho class and any' one of them might win. En Tour defeated Erination over hurdles on tho second day at Paeroa, and in view of the fact that he is a sound stayer who jumps country well, he may prove very difficult to beat En Tour is also engaged in the Hunters' Hurdles, and no announcement has yet been made as to which race he is to contest. It is probable that fancies will take a fairly wide rango, and some who may bo well supported aro Prosy Boy, Cardhu, En Tour and Semiarch. The Members' Memorial Some useful performers aro engaged in tho Members' Memorial Handicap, which bears an open aspect. Although defeated in her. recent engagements at Ellerslie, Silver Brier did well enough to indicate that sho has good prospects. Baroscope's fine condition should assist him, and Gay Rose is due to show some form at any time now. Astarth is a recent winner, but has yet to prove her worth over a middle distance. Thero aro several other possibilities, including Master Norval, Solomon and Scotch Nation. Tho favourites may be Silver Brier, Baroscope and Gay Rose. CAMBRIDGE PREPARATIONS VISITING HORSES AT WORK [ntoxi OUR OWN correspondent] CAMBRIDGE. Tuesday A number of horses who are to compete at tho Waikato Hunt races next Monday have already arrived. Several interesting trials took place' this morning on the extreme outside of the course proper. Nigger Rill and Sir Tommy ran five furlongs from a standing start in 1.55. Tho former jumped out bettor and finished in front. Sir Tommy appeared to be going easily. Modern Maid and Puccini wore not extended over a round, tho last four furlongs taking 555. Semiarch oncompassed a round of the steeplechase country, but did not give a very convincing display of jumping. Interest was taken in tho schooling of En Tour (R E. Thomson) and Atlantis (T. Wells). They went once round over the steeplechase fences, taking tho stand double twice. En Tour shaped nicely, but Atlantis hit several fences. • Forest Glow (R. Russell) set out for two rounds of the steeplechase course and gave tho best jumping exhibition of tho morning. After ono round a halt was made to replace a Btirrup iron, and tho journey was then completed satisfactorily, although a fast pace was not set. Scotch Nation, looking in the pink of condition, wont a circuit, covering the last six furlongs in 1.20. It has not been decided in which raco ho will start, but Mr. A. Pretty stated that it will probably bo the Members' Memorial. Yesterday morning Windsor Lad, Val Reo and Townsman traversed the steeplechase course with the pace full on. All jumped faultlessly, Windsor Lad being well in front at tho finish. NEW ZEALAND CUP HORSE KELLY AN UNLIKELY STARTER It is extremely doubtful Kelly will bo taken to Riccarton to contest tho New Zealand Cup; in fact, it is practically certain that he will not. Tho two races he had at tho spring meeting caused Kelly to lighten up and in the meantime ho has beon required to do nothing more strenuous than trotting. Ho is freshening up nicely, but it is unlikely that he will bo required to do anything of a very exacting nature yot awhilo. RIDERS AT WAVERLEY The Ellerslio jockeys L. Dulieu and S. Tromain will be riding at the Waverley Racing Club's meeting next Monday. Dulieu's mounts include Sporting Song, Treasure Hunt. Kia Ora and Red Sand, and Tromain will be on Princo Reno, Lady Eka and Moutoa.
