NEW PLYMOUTH HORSES
TEAM FOR WANGANUI CHIKARA'S GOOD GALLOP TAHURANGI IN FINE FORM [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday The New Plymouth horses for Wanganni were given their final trials this morning, when tho tracks were heavy after rain overnight. All the fast work took place on the trial grass. H. Dulieu, with Gold Mission. Sporting Song, Mustang and Red Sand, and probably J. O'Neill with Chikara. will leave in tho morning, and R. Barlow with Tahurangi and Refresher in the afternoon. Gold Mission and Mustang were allotted a good working gallop over half a mile. Chikara and Sporting Song both shaped attractively over five furlongs. They ran the first two in 25 2-ss, three in 38s, and tho full distance in 1.6. Sporting Song was slightly in front at the turn, but Chikara finished solidly to beat him by a length. Chikara carried out hm task in fine style and bis failure at the hunt meeting is hard to understand. Sporting Song also shaped well and was not ridden out at the end. Chief Marionetto did easy work on the inside. She looks bright and well, but so far her tasks have been light. Hinky Pinky beat Nugget over three furlongs in 40Ja. Hinky Pinky, a three-year-old filly by Raceful, shaped nicely. Lady Kyra did useful work on the inside. She has quite recovered from the trouble that prevented her from competing at the hunt meeting and bears a healthy appearance. Davistoek and Aussie Ra strode over live furlongs in _ solid stylo, tho last half-mile taking 545. They were allowed to drop out of their Wanganui engagements, but will probably race at Foxton next week. Tahurangi and Refresher did five furlongs in 1.6. Tahurangi handled the wet track in great style and finished full of running. It was a good gallop and draws attention to his prospects at Wanganui. However, there is possibility that he may be reserved for second day. Refresher did not handle the track well, but he looks < lit and should run prominently at Wanganni. Riding engagements include: —S Wilson, Tahurangi; R. W MeTavisb. Sporting Sonu; R. ,J. Flower, Gold Mission, Gold Gleam; P. S. Atkins, probably Refresher; It. W. Savago, Wahine Nui, Carfox, Midacre, Mustang and Waiongona (second day).
