F. Davis worked Haut Monde, Pinto and Heritnge before breakfast. The first-named run six furlongs in 1.17 4-5, Pluto taking 1.18 1-6. Heritnge was given good pace work. A heavy shower during the interval made the going slower after breakfast, when Spiral. Moquette and Karl worked very attractively. Spiral and Rust went six furlongs, tho formei finishing a couple of lengths in front in 1.19. Rust stumbled, losing ground in tho run homo. They ran the first threo furlongs in 37 4-ss. Midinn finished a length ahead of Entail after running five furlongs in 1.5 3-5. Moquette wnt. going comfortably alongside Imposture at the end of three furlongs in 33 l-ss. Wahine Nui was threo lengths in front of Senior at the end of a mile in 1.47 3-5. Going Gay covered half a mile in 5345, Mademoiselle Quex taking 51 is. All Spirit and Ihe Image ran five furlongs, f nishing together in 1.6. Trackman covered three furlongs in 40s. Bumble went five furlongs, the last throe in 40s. Grana Score and Tres Sec covered six furlongs in 1.21. Curie did a round, sprinting home. Karl and The Tramp covered half a milo in 52 2-ss. the former doing it nicely. Gallio, Ladv Ruler, Thane, Galilee. Flit Acre, Callisto, Landlubber, Hororata, Bun Fight, Tail Light, Slippery, Arouse, Carfex and a number of others did useful work.

TURF IN AUSTRALIA GOSFORD MEETING WIN FOR GRAND DUKE (Received September 10. 7.15 p.m.) SYDNEY. Sept. 10 At the Gosford races to-da.v Grand Duke won the first division of the Three and Four-Year-Old Handicap. The noted racehorse Rogilla, winner of the Caulfieid and Sydney Cups in the 1932-83 season, has broken down. A veterinary surgeon who examined the Epsom Handicap candidate Silver King has advised the owner, Mr. E. F. Walker, to withdraw the horse from all spring engagements, owing to ligament trouble. The New Zealand horse Tauramai has been scotched for the Metropolitan, to be run at Randwick on October 7. Sylvandale's mission is to be the Melbourne Cup, in which he is weighted at 9.4. Last season Sylvandale won the V.R.C. and A.J.C. St. Legers and the Australian Cup, while he ran third in the Sydney Cup. ■ ' •

MATAMATA RACING CLUB ANNUAL MEETING HELD [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT! MATAMATA, Tuesday The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Matamata Racing Club:—Patron, Mr. C. H Clinkard, M P.; president. Mr. J. W Anderson; vice-presidents, Messrs J Sims, G. Johnston and C. J. Casey; members committee, Messrs. G .Johnston, W C. Vincent. J. Landella. J. Pohlen, C. Gl. Payze; auditor, Mr. L. H Little; honorary secretary. Mr. B. C. Taylor The balance-sheet for the past year showed a profit of. £667 on the meeting and one of .£123 18s 5d on the farm account A recommendation was passed to the incoming executive that a stewards' and memberfi' stand be erected if the necessary finance could bo arranged. The meeting decided to support the efforts of the Racing Conference to secure more reasonable treatment in the mutter of taxation, a resolution to this effect being passed for submission to the Minister of Internal Affairs.

TROTTING CHAMPIONSHIPS CLASSES FOR PERTH MEETING r Mr. E. G. Bridgens, of Auckland, has received a cablegram from Mr. J. P. Stratton, president of the West Australian Trotting Association, stating that the classes for the series of Australasian championships, to be held next February, have been finalised. Three championship races will be contested as follows:—One mile, 2.1S class, of £S00; one mile and a-half, 3.21 class, of £1200; arid two miles, 4.30 class, of £IOOO. Mr. Stratton recently visited New Zealand and tho United States in connection witli the championship meeting, and on his return said that the proposal had been received with a good deal of enthusiasm by some American owners. Any horses making the trip to West Australia would also race in tho other Australian States, and would visit New Zealand either before or after racing in the championships.

PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB Tho Pakurnnga Hunt Club will hold point-to-point steeplechases at Pidgeon Mount, Pakuranga, next Saturday. The events will include a children's novelty scurry, members' light-weight, members' heavy-weight, ladies' race, farmers' rate and an open race. Exceptionally Rood entries are expected, thus ensuring good competition. Hot water will be provided free on the grounds and farmers and their families over whose farms the club hunts are invited, no charge being made in thoir case.
