A. number of Gisborne coinpetitors were present, all being successful. The referee was Mr. J. 0 Sullivan and the .Judges Messrs. J. Plamus (.Whakatane) and J. O'Sullivau, jun. Davy s reach was too lons for his opponent, who put up a splendid defence, but was narrowly -beaten on points. i DARGAVILLE TOURNAMENT MANY INTERESTING BOUTS [BY TELEOIUPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT! DARGAVILLE. Friday A large and enthusiastic audience witnessed the first tournament of the season of the Northern Wairoa Military Boxing Association The novelty of the evening was the one-minute round inter-platoon competition for the Hudson Cup, which provided excellent sport and raised great enthusiasm. The Ruawai ft]nd Te Kopuru platoons tied with 4i points each. In the fight-off with one man each side Ruawai won. * . „ Tho territorial welter-weight for the Megson Cup was won by the holder, Private L. T. Hansen, of the Te Kopuru Platoon, after a good contest with Private H. Clements. of the Dargaville platoon. Special bouts resulted as follows:—Ken Moran (Dargaville) defeated R. Killoen (Auckland) on points; M- .Hackett (Dargaville) defeated K. Viscovich (Whanearei) on points: C. Manson (Auckland) defeated J. Swan (Whangarei); G. Cooke (Auckland) and R. Barnett (Whangarei) drew Special awards for the best displays in their respective teams in the inter-platoon competition were secured by Sergeant Driver (Tangowahine-Te Kopuru). Private N. Todd (Dargaville), and Lonce-Cornoral V. B. Williams (Ruawai). A clever exhibition bout was staged by two juvenile flyweights, Alnn Donovan and Tommy Tague, of Auckland. Mr. Henry Donovan, of Auckland, and Mr. G. F. Meale, of Ruawai. acted as referees. The judges were Dr. C. H. Crump and Mr. Roy Hume. Results were: —G. Manson (Auckland), 9st. Mb., beat A. At the conclusion of the series Ruawai t>nd Tangowahine-Te Kopuru platoons vrere equal with 4) points each. The issue was decided by matching J. Wilson (Ruawai), and S Pitoni (Tangowahine-Te Kopuru). who had fought a draw. Wilson gained the decision in the second bout and gave Ruawai the winning point.
