WOMAN BEFORE COURT CLOTHING VALUED AT £44 TWO VISITS TO CITY STORE Two chnrges of obtaining credit totalling £44 6s 4d by fraud from a city department store by representing that she was a Remuera woman who had an account with the firm were preferred against a single woman, Myra Conway, aged 28, in the Police Court, before Mr. Wyvern Wilson. S.M., on Saturday morning. Accused pleaded guilty. Senior-Detective Hall, stated that | accused, accompanied by her halfsister, aged 12, called at the store concerned on the evening of July 26. She represented that she was a customer living at Remuera. She visited various departments and obtained clothing to the value of £26 2s 3d on credit. Another visit was made the following morning and goods to the value of £lB 4s Id were obtained in similar circumstances. Evidence was given by Detective Hamilton, who read a statement made by accused. In the statement accused said she was employed as a domestic at Morrinsville. She visited the store with the intention of obtaining credit by' fraud. While on the premises she found a docket on the floor bearing the name of a Remuera woman. She used this name to obtain all the goods. Some of the goods were given to accused's mother, who did not know they had been dishonestly obtained, the statement continued. Accused kept the remaining articles and some of them were in a suitcase she left on the Rotorua express. She had been in ill-health, and was very sorry for what she had done. Mr. Hall added that portion of the proi)erty to the value of £2l had been recovered unused. Accused had not previously come under the notice of the police. In remanding accused until Saturday for sentence, the magistrate said he wanted further information as to her antecedents and past history.
