NATIONAL FINANCES

ACCOUNTS FOR THE YEAR EARLIER STATEMENTS URGED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] WELLINGTON. Sunday Representations are to be made to the Government by the executive of the Associated Chambers of Commerce in favour of adjustments being made to enable the national accounts to be published earlier than is the case at present. At a meeting to-day of the executive it was reported that a sub-com-mittee had made inquiries into the matter. It was pointed out that, while a statement of Go%-ernment revenue and expenditure was available in England very shortly after March 31, in New Zealand the public accounts were not published until three months after the close of the financial year. This, it was stated, meant delay in the presentation of the Budget, and Parliament was then called on to authorise expenditure of the State which had actually been going on without authority for a quarter of a year, or even longer.
