PANMURE MYSTERY

INTENSIFIED INQUIRY ACTIVITY OF DETECTIVES MISSING GIRL NOT TRACED The police inquiry concerning the body of the young woman which was found in the Tamaki River at Panmure on Juno 2 has been intensified, and there are now five or six members of the detective staff engaged in a widespread investigation. The body has boon viewed by the father and two brothers of the'niissing Te Puke girl, Miss Mary Elizabeth Raymond, but they stated yesterday that they had been unable to identify it. Up to the present no trace has been found of Miss Raymond.

Although over a week has elapsed since tho discovery of the body, no statement has yet been made concerning the findings of the specialists who have examined it. The remains, and also the rope and sacks found with the body, were immediately submitted for medical examination, the results of which have not yet been announced. When the inquiry was commenced two detectives were assigned to it, but in the past week so many new factors and possiblo lines of investigation have been introduced that it has been found necessary to increase substantially the number of officers engaged on the case. Each is kept fully occupied, and, although many promising clues have proved valueless, there has been no slackening of police activity. Members of tho police force continued on Saturday their search of the vicinity in which the body was found. Nothing of value was discovered, but the search ■will be resumed to-day in view of the possibility of finding clothing or other traces-that may lead to a solution of the mystery. The police are anxious in this respect that the public should co-operate by furnishing immediate information concerning any possible clue, however slight.
