AVONDALE WOMEN'S CLUB
The annual meeting of the Avondale Women's Club was held in the Blockhouse Bay Hall this week. The president, Miss Newton, presided. The secretary's report and the treasurer's statement showed the club to be in a sound condition". The president's address was on the subject of " Women and World Peace." Miss Newton appealed to every woman to link up with the League of Nations Union so that they would be doing what they could to strengthen the most powerful force working for peace in the world to-dav. At the close of the address it was unanimously agreed that the club should become a corporate member of the League of Nations Union and make the literature of the League available to members for study. The election of officers for the ensuing year was as follows: —President, Miss Newton; vice-presidents, Mrs. Oxenham and Mrs. W. Kealey; lion, secretary and treasurer. Miss Ingram; assistant secretary, Mrs. Gill; committee, Mesdames Browne,' Rigden, Wright, Metcalfe, Pendlebury, Greep, and Walker. Regret was expressed that Mrs. Wood, a former vice-president, was at present too ill to attend meetings.
