Jan 24 The storm situation in the United States and Canada is increasing in gravity. It is reported that 100 people have been killed, including 13 in New York.

Blizzards continue to rage from Maine to Minnesota and even in Florida snow is reported. It is estimated that 1000 persons are clinging to roof-tops and trees in various parts of tlj£J country in a desperate effort to save themselves from floods.

A message from Vancouver states that railway services and lines of communication continue to be demoralised. Heavy snow and rains also continue in the mountains with additional snow slides. Vancouver schools have not been re-opened yet. The low-lands of British Columbia are flooded.
