LADY BOWLERS PLAY
SOUTH ISLAND-EDENDALE It is not often that bowlers contest a game of bowls with lady bowlers, but this happened on Monday afternoon, when the president, Mr. Jim Annison, of the Edendale Bowling Club, welcomed those ladies on behalf of the club who were taking part in the contest. These comprised visiting lady boivlers from Duuedin, Timaru and Christchurch.
Two full rinks were played and the Edendale representatives found to their great surprise that they could not take the ladies too lightly, as the resul* showed. The two lady skips were the outstanding players, namely, Mrs. Grant, of North East Valley Club, Dunedin, and Mrs. Matson, of the Beckenham Club, Christchurch. The personnel of both teams was wonderfully skilled in the art of bowling. At the afternoon tea adjournment Mrs. Cook, of Dunedin, president of the Dominion Ladies' Bowling Association, addressed the gathering in regard to the formation of ladies' bowling clubs, and expressed the opinion that the Edendale Club was most helpful, as the president had promised to do all he could to promote the wish of the ladies, and would put the matter before the executive. The results of the contest were as follows (lady visitors' names first): — Mrs. Grant, 22, v. Bennett, 21; Mrn. Matson, 24, v. Wilkinson, 18, the ladies winning on the aggregate b}' 46 to 39.
