UNPAID TAXICAB FARE
FALSE PRETENCES CHARGE ACCUSED SENT TO PRISON [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION*] WELLINGTON, Wednesday In the Police Court to-day, Alfred Arthur Gurney, who was stated to have more than 20 previous convictions for dishonesty, was sent to prison for a month fpr imposing on a taxi-driver. Accused was stated to have obtained a ride to Plimmerton and back on the representation that ho was staying at a hotel in Wellington, from which he had telephoned for the taxi. On finding that accused was not going to pay, the taxi-driver proceeded to a police station and handed his fare over for investigation. The whole "tissue of lies" was then revealed, but there was no evidence of money.
