POWER POLE STRUCK
YOUNG WOMAN'S DEATH

Sunday A fatal accident occurred on the Kopit Road to-day at .12.30 a.m., when a car owned and driven by Mr. E. Haynos, aged 22, baker's assistant, left the road and crashed into an elec-tric-power pole, immediately opposite Mr. E. B. 'lizard's gate. There were eight people in the ear. A young woman was killed and five of the passengers were injured. The victim was:— Miss Mabel Horrox, aged 25. daughter of jVIr. and Mrs. W. Horrox, of Huntly, killed. The injured wcro: — Mr. Ralph Shaw, aged 25, broken log and broken arm. Miss Ivy Cordes, aged 24, severe wound in the thigh. Mrs. J. Knowles, wife of a post office official, broken nose. James Edwards, aged 24, sever.fi bruises. Miss Pool, aged 26. severe bruises. The driver escaped serious injury. It is not known whether a tyre hurst or whether the steering gear went out of action. The car, which was being driven at about 30 miles an hour, left the road, jumped a ditch and collided with the pole, and was completely wrecked, tho bodywork being torn away from tho chassis. Mr. Tizard and Mr. McConnell heard the crash and hurried to the assistance of tho injured people. When they arrived at the scene of tho accident, Miss Horrox said that she was all right. After they had summoned help, it was found that she was suffering from concussion and in a critical condition. She later collapsed and died.
