OPENING OF TRACK SEASON LYNNDALE CLUB'S EVENTS The Lynndale Amateur Athletic Club opened its track on Saturday afternoon. Heavy rains had made the track siow, and this, combined with a high wind, did not make conditions very pleasant. There was a surprisingly good muster of members for the first meeting, a pleasing feature being the number of new runners. Although times were slow, some great finishes were witnessed. The results were as follows: — 100 Yds.—First heat: R.'West, 1; B. Scott, 2; W. Briggs, 3. Second heat: C. May, 1; N. Armistead, 2; W. McCombie. 3. Final: C. May, 1; N. Armistead, 2: R. West, 3. Savidan, New Zealand three miles title-holder, has lodged an application for the special match race between himself and A. R. Wilson, of Whangarei. provincial mile champion, at the gymkhana on Monday to be recognised as an attack on the New Zealand two-milea record. With this in view, the course has been resurveyed and four special timing watches have been checked. Great interest is centred in the event. ROTORUA EVENING MEETING [from our own correspondent]' ROTORUA, Saturday The Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club's first fortnightly meeting of the 1334-35 season was held on the Government Gtounds last evening. There were splendid Gelds, keen competition and good finishes. The running in the sprints of Fraser and was most promising, also that of Miss Newman, a first geason lady runner.
