HOSPITAL AUXILIARY
MONTHLY REPORT The monthly council meeting of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary was hold on Wednesday, the president, Mrs. E. A. Kidd, presiding. Mrs. T. J. G. Neill reported that the Onehunga branch had given six orders to patients in their district on discharge from hospital. Madame Milburn had given an enjoyable concert at the infirmary last month. The branch would be glad of playing cards for the patients in the shelters and infirmary. Mrs. R. C. H. Hooton reported that six orders for .extra nourishment had beeu given, also clothing. A donation of a hand-machine, which they intend lending to women to enable them to do their own sewing had been received. Several members have visited the homes of patients. Mrs. Lange and her committee visited the hospital and distributed jam, fruit and books. New and second-hand clothing was sent to the depot. The Alexandra Hoi&e was visited as usual and toa and an entertainment given. A jumble sale had realised £7. The junior branch visits the hospital monthly and takes fruit, books and puzzles to the children. A wireless sot for a patient had been obtained and a licence for a bed-ridden girl paid. Miss Mary Geddcs reported that the Mental Hospital branch had all its committees working . satisfactorily with handicrafts, dancing and play-reading. The after-care committee under Dr. Elizabeth Hughes was becoming known and patients were availing themselves of its benefits. A sub-committee had arranged to obtain newspapers and periodicals per day for the patients of the Mental Hospital, and another was arranging to get Christmas comforts. Mrs. J. P. Howden reported that the city sewing circle had sent 138 garments to the depot in. September and 253 in Octol»er. Seventy-two parcels of donations were received in September and 24 in October. Mrs. J. R. Whitaker reported that during September and October the purchasing and distributing committee had sent material to Waiuku, Hobsonville, New Lynn, To Atatu, Glen Eden and Kohekohe Women's Institutes and had received back parcels of finished garments from Bombay, Glen Eden, Henderson, New Lynn, Te Atatu and Waiuku Women's Institutes. % Sister Mulcock reported having helped 15 T.B. out-patients since August 13 with orders for extra nourishment amounting to £ll odd. Several patients had also received clothing from the depot. Mrs. M. Dreaver reported that the wireless committee had received a donation of £2 7s toward the broadcast call system for the hospital. The objective is £l5O for apparatus. The depot reported having distributed 393 garments in August and 343 in September, and having received donations of 205 garments in August and 39 in September. Outside workers had sent in 41 garments and the nurses branch 38. Four patients were taken to their homes in August and five in September. Orders for food were given to 23 ex-patients in August aisd 33 in September. Forty-six families were helped with clothing in August and 45 in September. The Evelyn Firth Home had sent a donation of gramophone records.
