BEDROOM THEFT
ANOTHER SUBURBAN CASE SUM OF £l6 STOLEN ELUSIVE BURGLAR UNTRACED Bank notes and silver of a total value of £l6 were stolen by a thief who broke into the home of Mr. D. MacRae, at 1.84 Balmoral Bond, Mount Eden, early yesterday morning. The -thief, who disturbed Mr. and Mrs. MacHae, escaped through the back door. It is believed that the notorious "Slippery Sam" was responsible for the theft. The money, which represented takings at the Balmoral Bagwash Laundry, of which Mr. Macßae is the proprietor, was in a purse kept for safety in a cupboard in tho bedroom. The thief entered silently through the bathroom window, opened both the front and back doors from inside to provide avenues of escape, and commenced by searching the room in which the money was kept. The intruder did not disturb the occupants of the room while he opened tho cupboard, which had been left unlocked, and removed the purse. While he was searching the room next door, however, the creaking of a door aroused Mr. and Mrs. Macßae. They took little notice, thinking that another member of the family was moving in the house, but when Mrs. Macßae spoke the man ran out of the room and through the back door. It was not until the thief commenced to run that Mr. Macßae realised that anything was amiss. He jumped out of bed, but by the time he had reached the back door the man was out sight. The police were informed, and detectives searched the neighbourhood. They failed to locate the thief. In recent months money has been stolen from houses in almost every Auckland suburb, presumably by the same man.
