ACTIVITIES IN BRITAIN [BY TKI.KGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON. Thursday The grand secretary of the New Zealand branch of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows. Mr. A. G. Shrimpton, and the deputygrand master. Mr. A. C. Blair, returned from Kngland by the Rotorua yesterday^after representing New Zealand at a conference in London. Mr. Shrimpton said the outstanding feature of the work of the Manchester Unity in Great Britain was the unity's war memorial orphan gift fund. Since its inception £247,501 had been raised by voluntary donations. He also said it was remarkable that notwithstanding the operations of national health insurance and the compulsory enrolling of wage earners, the voluntary membership of friendly societies in Britain was maintained at a high level.
