TRADE WITH CANADA

EASTERN PORTS SERVICE IMPROVED FACILITIES v SAILINGS FROM AUCKLAND An alteration is to be made in the cargo service from Eastern Canada conducted by Canadian National Steamships, arrangements having been made for separate sailings between Canada and New Zealand and between Canada and Australia, instead of the present combined service. The change provides for two steamers to leave Auckland for Canada each month, oue proceeding direct and the other via Southern ports.

Under the present service a steamer is despatched from Montreal or Halifax once a month to Auckland, Wellington and Australian ports. From Australia the vessel returns to Montreal or Halifax, via New York and Boston, taking cargo from New Zealand and Australia. The Becond steamer proceeds from Montreal or Halifax to Australian ports, Dunedin and Lyttelton, with occasional calls at other South Island ports. From Lyttelton she is despatched to New York, Boston and Montreal or Halifax.

According to the new arrangement a steamer will leave Montreal or Halifax each month for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. After discharging and loading at each port she will be despatched from Dunedin for Montreal or Halifax, via New York and Boston. Another steamer will be despatched each month from Montreal or Halifax with cargo for Australian ports only. After discharging and loading in Australia the vessel will come to Auckland to complete loading, and she will be despatched from Auckland for New York, Boston and Montreal or Halifax.

The Canadian Britisher, now at Auckland, will inaugurate the new service, and she is scheduled to leave Halifax on November 25 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She will return to Halifax, via New York and Boston, from Dunedin without calling at Australian ports.
