Wadnesdoy The poll of the ratepayers of tho TVaipa County Council will be taken nest Tuesday on tho proposal to raise a loan of £30,000 for the permanent surfacing of tho whole length of Great South Road within tho county. The Main Highways Board is providing £115,000, and even if the work costs more than tho estimate of £145,000 the county contribution is limited to £30,000. About four miles of new construction is entailed, besides about 13 miles of partly-new construction due to slight deviations. One of the major works is a new bridge 'over the Puniu River, south of Kihikihi. The new road, from what is known as Wynyard's Corner, to the new bridge and on to the main road again southward represents nearly one and a-half miles of construction, and tliafcpflength will be perfectly straight snd level, eliminating a number of bendk
