NORTHERN AUSTRALIA

GEOLOGICAL SURVEY PARTY LEAVES SYDNEY A FOUR-FOLD MISSION (Received September 19. 9.35 p.m.) SYDNEY. Sept. 19 A party of geologists headed by Dr. W. G. Woolnough, Commonwealth Geological Adviser, left Sydney to-day in the monoplane Southern Cross for an aerial tour of Northern Australia. The mission of the party will comprise four distinct phases—aerial photography, a geological survey by ground parties, a geophysical survey of areas found to be suitable and boring. The Federal Government hopes the work of the geologists will lead to the development of the resources of Northern Australia. It claims to have ample evidence to justify the projected survey, which will take a considerable time.
