Getting the ball to the home backs, they scored three tries to Hamilton'? two. Hamilton was fortunate to be presented .with two gift tries, otherwise it might have left 'he field with its score down. Morresey) The same was all the more interesting as tho teams were the two leading oi)C3 in the senior championship competition. There was u good attendance, but not eo large as waj expected considering tho importance of the game. The ground was in soft condition, the weather was showery and' warm. Although not spectacular, tho game was most interesting, the second half being very exciting. It was mainly a contest between two spleudid teams of forwards, the Maungakaramea pack attacking with great, determination in tin second half, and it was only magnificent defence that prevented the side from scoring on more than one occasion. Splendid defence and Kerr's goalkicking were the factors of City's win. Play was frequently held up 011 account of minor injuries to players, no one. however, being required to leave the field. City was without tho services of three of its regular players, and this handicapped it somewhat. For City, Stirling, ns halfback, was outstanding, his defence being splendid. Kerr and Barrett played good supporting back games. The forwards all worked very hard, Dont, Godfrey. and McKenzie being the pick. For Maungakaramea. B. Morresey, Lift and Childs were the best of the barks. The forwards were a very even combination, with M. Morresey, Child and T. O'Shea always in the forefront of the attack. Hikurangi won by default, from Old Boys, and Horahora won by default from Mangakahia. The positions of tha leading teams are ns follows:—City. 1G points, with one game to play; Horahora. 14 points, with two games to play; Maungakaramea, 13 points, with two games to play; Hikurangi, 12. with two games to play. At Waiuku, Franklin maintained its unbeaten record by easily defeating Waiuku by 20 points to 7. after a hard but uninteresting contesi. Clever play by the FVankhr. backs was the dominating feature of the game, which offset the good play by the Waiuku pack. Bush, in the Franklin pack, combined well with his backs, and was tho outstanding forward, while Barnaby was prominent in a clever set of backs. Sherrard stood out in a hard-working Waiuku pack, while Hare, at half, played a good game all the way. The rest of the Waiuku backs wero in no way impressive. Franklin opened the scoring when Lnpwood dived over from a forward scramble. Moore finished _ a clever movement by the Franklin back division to put his side six up. Opening the second half. Barnaby scored a clever try after a swervim? run of 30 yards, making Franklin nine up. Moyle opened Waiuku's account with a penalty goal, but H.
