PARK FOR TE PUKE

PROPOSED ACQUISITION SUPPORT FROM TAURANGA [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TAURANGA, Saturday The Tauranga County Council has unanimously decided to support the representations of the To Puke Town Board to the Minister of Lands for the acquisition of an area of land in an estate adjacent to the Te Puke township as a sports ground, and disposing of tho Atuaroa reserve in the eastern portion of the town district. While tho Atuaroa reserve was suitable for a plantation or farming purposes, it was considered that it would never be suitable as a playing area. In the meantime, owing to certain circumstances, tho old playing area of the town had become available for purchase, and the board felt it would be neglecting its duty to the public of the district if it did not strongly advocate the substitution of the one area for the other. The suggested new domain would supply for all time a breathing space right in the heart of tho township. One of tho adjacent landowners had donated an additional two acres adjoining the proposed domain.
