LOWER TAXI FARES

DECREASE FROM TO-DAY LARGE COMPANY'S DECISION A decrease in fares, to operate from eight o'clock this morning, is announced by the Atta Taxi Company, following the recent merger of taxi owner-drivers. Under, the now scale, the fare for five miles will be 2s. The rate operating previously was 3s for five miles. An official of the company stated last evening that as the concern's telephone area did not at present include St. Heliers Bay, Mission Bay, Kohimarama; Onehunga and Avondale, the extra charges outside the existing five-mile limit would be retained. When the telephono service was extended to these districts, however, the additional charges would be abolished. For ordinary trips, the present fare of 6d per half mile beyond the first five miles will be. retained under the new arrangement.
