HEAVY TRAIN TRAFFIC

THE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS TWO EXPRESSES LAST NIGHT LARGE CROWD AT STATION A very largo croiVd of people thronged the express departure platform at the Auckland railway station last night, when two separate trains we ip required to cope with the phenonemal number of passengers. The increased activity was mainly due to the commencement of the school holidays, although some of those travelling south visited Auckland for the representative Rugby football match and the Ellerslie races at the week-end.

The limited express for Wellington, comprising 11 vehicles instead of the customary eight, carried about 300 passengers. . A separate train was despatched for New Plymouth, and it consisted of five carriages, with a total of slightly more than 100 passengers. In addition, over 400 platlorm tickets were sold to friends farcwelling passengers

Owing to the electric lights of a second-class carriage on the limited express failing to function, some delay was caused while the vehicle, which was in the middle of the train, was replaced. As a result, the train's departure was delayed about five minutes, but it reached Frankton on time. The express for New Plymouth, which was scheduled to leave at 7.18, left practically on time." Bookings on both the New Plymouth and Wellington expresses to Auckland on Saturday morning also were too heavy for a combined train to be formed, as usual, at Taumarunui, and instead the Now Plymouth train, with five passenger carriages well filled, proceeded separately to Auckland, arriving at 6.38 a.m. The Wellington express, with 12 carriages, arrived at 7.30. The limited express, which arrived at 9.40, was also well patronised.
