ACTIVITIES AT WHANGAREI WEATHER AFFECTS FINANCES [ FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI, "Wednesday The report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Whangarei Agricultural and Pastoral Society on August 25 states that the wet weather which marred the summer show had a serious effect on the finances of the Bociety. Tho loss on the year's working, of £193, was largely due to this. 9 The stock show held on January 30 and 31 was marred by two very vet days. This resulted in a loss of £l5B on the fixture, gate receipts amounting to only £32 for the two days. Considering tho restricted spending power of the ■ public, the report continues, the winter show was a success financially, there being a profit of £127 on the fixture. From the exhibition point of view the show was an improvement on that of the previous year.' Early in the year the sum of £IOOO was received from the proceeds of an art union, on condition that the money was applied to a reduction of the society's liabilities. This was done by redeeming half the A debentures owing on tho winter show building, thereby easing the interest liability by £52 10s a year. The Kensington Park dispute with the Whangarei Borough Council was brought to finality in tho Supreme Court, and judgment was given in favour of the society that the agreement of sale and purchase was legal and binding. The society was awarded only £lO 10s costs, and there remained to "bo found £7l 13s to pay tho balance of expenses incurred in defending the action.
