FISH EXPORT PROSPECTS

DUNEDIN TO MELBOURNE VESSEL'S INSULATED SPACE [by telegraph—owx correspondent] DUXEDIN, Saturday The new Melbourne steamer Waitaki is expected to give valuable assistance to the fishing industry, because she has insulated space available for the transport of fish. Hitherto the difficulty in obtaining such space has hampered the export of fish to Melbourne, where a market exists for our surplus supply. At present the local market is taking what fish is offering, and at a price above export rates; therefore, export buyers are not operating freely. An export buyer said to-day that the insulated space now available with the three-weekly service is likely to have a marked effect at the season when fish is more plentiful than it is at present.
