RESERVE BANK NOTES
LARGE SHIPMENT ARRIVES ISSUE ON AUGUST I There will probably be more £5 notes in Auckland to-day than for a long time to come. A large consignment for the Reserve Bank arrived by the Matakana on Saturday, representing the supply for Auckland and the rest of the North Island.
The notes were packed in' the usual sturdy boxes, well sealed, and were taken over by officials of the Reserve Bank. After being carefully checked they were conveyed to the National Bank of New Zealand for storage over the week-end. Their removal caused no interest on the part of passers by, to whom the sight of cases of money being taken into banks is almost becoming a common occurrence. The notes of £1 and 10s denominations have already been received in Auckland, and have been distributed to the trading banks, ready for issue on August 1. They arrived from Wellington by train on June 29 and were lodged in the vaults of the Bank of New Zealand. ■»
The Matakana also brought a quantity of the new threepenny pieces for the Bank of New Zealand. Their value was in the neighbourhood of £9OOO.
