TURKS' REGRETS

BRITISH OFFICER'S DEATH

WREATH CAST INTO SEA British Wireless RUGBY, July 20 The incident off the Turkish coast in which an officer of the British cruiser Devonshire was killed last Saturday afternoon by rifle fire from Turkish guards has been amicably settled between the two Governments?. Arrangements were made with the Turkish Government, which had already expressed its regret at the incident, for a joint funeral service which was held to-day at the spot at which the death occurred.

The British warships, Queen Elizabeth, London and Devonshire were present, and the Turkish Government detailed a Turkish destroyer also to be present, and to associate herself with the ceremony. From the Turkish destroyer a wreath was cost into the sea with an inscription expressing the sympathy and regret of the Turkish Navy.
