BILLIONS OF METEORS

EARTH'S ATMOSPHERE ANTARCTIC OBSERVATIONS NEW YORK. July I A message from the Byrd Antarctic expedition at Little America states: — Dr. Poulter announces that estimates, based upon calculations arising from observations here during the past two months of winter darkness, indicate that the earth's atmosphere is catching meteors at the enormous rate of one billion or more a day. Dr. Poulter is so impressed by his studies to date that he is considering a tractor journey to the Boiling advance., weather station where Rear-Admiral Byrd is wintering, to place another meteor observer there. The trip would be hazardous, requiring travel by moonlight and a tractor journey of 300 miles over exceptionally difficult terrain under winter conditions.
