PONSONBY CRUISING CLUB PRESENTATION OF. PRIZES' The Ponsonby Cruising Club hv'ld its annual smoko concert and presentation of prizes in the clubhouse, s*t. Mary's Bay, last evening. There whs a very large attendance of members and visitors, including Mr. C. H. Palmer, chairman of the Auckland Yacht and Motor-Boat Association, Mr Ernest Davis, and representatives from all the yacht inid launch clubs on the Waitemata and Manukau. The commodore, Mr. F. W. Jefiers, extended a welcome to the visitors and called upon the president, Mr. A. Thompson, to occupy the chair. In congratulating th'> c'ub on a successful season, tho chairman said ho had been associated with the club since its formation 34 years ago and ho had watched its steady progress. Five days had been devoted to racing, the entries for tho ponson totalling 203. excluding tho midget classes. The averago entry on each day was 59. On regatta day 79 of tho larger elapses entered for tho various events and also 20 midgets. Tho handsome silver cup presented by the late Sir Thomas Lipton for inter-club competition in the 22ft. mullet classes was won by Roman, representing the Ponsonby Club, after a very close contest. Next season, said Mr. Thompson, lour or five new 22-footers would make their appearance, and would create more interest than ever in the Linton Cup contest and class racing. Mr. Thompson paid _a. tribute to tho commodore and his committee on the Btrong financial position of the club: Tho prizes were presented by_ tho commodore. tho most importunt being won by tho followingLipton Cup. Komim: Hewson Memorial Trophy. lolanthe- "Rahiri Cup. Raider; Willcocks' Cup, Valet; Nyrin Cup. Memutu: Winter Cup. Marleno; T, X and Y Cup, Meteor; Crew Cup, Waiapu; Aggregate Points Cup for clnsses H. L and N, Tinkoa; Aggregate Cup for classes V to Z. Valet; Champion Aggregate Cup, Valet. In addition to the club's prizes J4 cups were presented to boatowners by Mr. R. Woodside, a vice-patron. Of that number the following boats, which had failed to gain a prizo during tho season, received a cup for consistent racing:—Jupiter, Avro, Varuna, Shalimar. Aotea. Trevic.
