RELATIVE VALUES CHANGE BUTTER'S PREMIER POSITION GREATER RETURN FROM WOOL Changes in the relative values of New Zealand's principal exports are reflected in statistics now available of thn Dominion's exports for the year ended March 31, 1931. Excluding specie, •exports iu 1933-34 were £8,532,<10.5 greater at £4(3,0-12,570 (New Zealand currency) than in 1932-33. The increase is equal to 23 per cent, but a certain amount is duo to the increased exchange rate. Butter remained tho most valuable export commodity, the total return for 1933-34 being about £750,000 higher at £11.691,541, which.was obtained at tho expense of an increase from 2,355,664cwt. to 3,740,973ewt. in the quantity exported. Tho value of wool exports was almost doubled at £11,603.079, tho quantity exported being only 22,205 bales greater at 811,719 bales. Frozen lamb exports returned £6,584,234, about tho same as last year, tho quantity shipped showing a reduction of 196,626cwt. to 2,577,832ctvt. A-total of £4,683,480, a reduction of £342,404, was returned by cheese, in which the export quantity increased from '1,892,708cwt. to 1,964,535cwt. The following tablo shows the value, in New Zealand currency, of the principal export commodities during tho two years:—

Tho principal decreases occurred in wheat, £243,129; cigarettes and tobacco, £222,790; motor-spirit, £236,590. The chief increases were: Tea, £210,312; and motor vehicles, £206,804.
