MECHANIC'S OFFENCES USED VALUELESS CHEQUES A mechanic, "Walter Frank Goodall, aged 33 (Mr. Noble), who appeared hefore Mr. W. It. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court on Thursday, admitted 10 charges of obtaining money totalling £67 12s and goods valued at £1 from tradespeople by. means of valueless cheques. "The offences lasted over nearly two months," said Senior-Detective Hall. "It was simply a matter of putting up a plausible tale in each case." Detective Mills, who, -with Detectives Knight and Davis, arrested accused, said the young man had expressed a desire to clear up the matter. In committing accused to the Supreme Court for sentence, the magistrate refused to grant bail. Robert Larliins, aged 34 (Mr. Sullivan), admitted charges of committing a breach of his prohibition order and assaulting Ettie Biglands on Sunday. Senior-Sergeant Flanagan said accused was before the Court as recently as March 21, when leniency was then shown him on charges of theft. The magistrate fined accused £3, or 14 days' imprisonment, for the assault, and £l, or 48 hours, for the breach of his prohibition order. Admitting a breach of his probation order, Charles Walsh, bushman, aged 42 (Mr. Noble), was sentenced to a month's imprisonment.
