CHARGE OF FORGERY

WITHDRAWAL FROM BANK OFFENCE BY MUSIC TEACHER A charge of forgery was laid in the Police Court on Thursday against Leonard James Monk, aged 34, music teacher. He pleaded guilty to forging a Post Office Savings Bank authority form by marking out tho word "Twelve" and the figures "£l2 10s" and adding the word "Five" and the initials "W.H.J.M." and the figures "£5 10s."

Detective-Sergeant McHugh said accused's father, who was ill in bed at the time, gave accused an authority form for £l2 10s on the bank and a withdrawal slip. Accused withdrew the money and then returned to his father, saying the bank would not pay out because the father had not signed his full Christian name. He took back further blank forms which his father signed for £l2 10s. On going to the hank this time, however, accused found there was not a •sufficient balance, so ho altered the forms from £l2 10a to £5 10s, and drew this amount.

Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
