SCHOOL SPORTS
ANNUAL PRIMARY MEETING BIG GATHERING AT DOMAIN KEEN CONTESTS FOR SHIELDS The annual sports gathering of the Auckland Primary Schools' Amateur Athletic Association was held at the Domain on Thursday, when over 6000 children, representing 55 schools, took part in the various events. Each school had a large following, with the result that the barracking and cheering in connection with each contest could be heard a long distance away from the scene of activities. The very large number of competitors necessitated the running of as many as 14 heats in some of the races, yet, owing to the efficient organisation, and the whole-hearted manner in which the teachers co-operated, the entire programme was run off without a hitch. Numerous records were broken in both the boys' and girls' competitions. The large number of parents and other spectators derived much pleasure from the massed folk dancing during the afternoon. Four dances were performed by girl pupils of 32 schools and the perfect rhythm sustained throughout by the big assemblage evoked much admiration from the crowd. The Roller Mills, Championship Shield for competition in the boys' section was won by the Cornwall Park school, which .gained 117$ points, Owairaka being second with 106J, and Papatoetoe third with 95. The champion girls' school was Westmere, which had a big margin over its nearest rival. Westmere totalled 109 points, Otahuhu 64 and Cornwall Park 51. MOUNT ALBERT GRAMMAR p. STEPHENSON SENIOR CHAMPION After having been postponed since Tuesday through heavy rain, the Mount Albert Grammar School's annual athletic sports wore concluded on Thursday morning. DAY'S PERFORMANCES [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOKE. Friday The Pukekohe Technical High School's annual sports meeting was held in the grounds yesterday in very favourable weather. The programme was not quite completed, and consequently the championships cannot be worked out, although P. W. Day is undoubtedly the senior champion. Day put up a fine performance, equalling the school 100 yds record of 10 3-ssj which was established by the late L. Wood in 1922. By finishing in 24 4-5s in the 220 yds, Day also equalled the record established by A. Best in 1928. Day's time was two seconds outside the record for the 440 yds and his high jump of sft 2Jin is probably a school record. The results are as follows: BOYS' EVENTS IOOYds. Junior Championship.—W.
