THEATRES CHANGE HANDS
CIVIC AND STRAND CONTROL THE AMALGAMATED COMPANY An arrangement was completed on Thursday for the vesting of the control and management of the Civic Theatre, Auckland, as front June 1, in Amalgamated Theatres, Limited, of which company Mr. M. J. Moodabe is the governing director. The Civic Theatre, which is admitted to bo the most lavishlydesigned and equipped theatre in New Zealand, will be the largest of tho Amalgamated Theatres' chain of 42 theatres throughout tho Dominion. v The Strand Theatre, which has lately been associated with tho Civic Theatre's management, will also come under the control of Amalgamated Theatres, whose first release houses iu Auckland will be the Civic, Plaza, Strand, Roxy and Tivoli Theatres. Mr. Moodabe preferred to make no statement concerning the policy to be followed in his now theatres, but said ho hoped to announce very shortly plans which would open up "a new era of cinema entertainment in Auckland."
