ROWING
POSTPONEMENT OF EVENTS NORTH SHORE'S TRIAL FOURS A north-easterly wind, together with low tide, made conditions impracticable for rowing on the waterfront road course on Saturday afternoon, and in consequence it was deemed advisable to postpone the inter-club contests for the Sir Henry Brett Memorial Cup, the Smi-th Shield and the Maurice Caro Cup. Conditions on the northern side of the harbour, where the water was more or less sheltered, however, were more conducive to racing. Accordingly Xorth Shore oarsmen took advantage of this and conducted consolation trial fours in the form of an "upside down" trial, in which contestants reversed their usual positions in the boat. Members of the losing crews donated the trophies. Three crews competed and, considering that members were rowing in positions to which they wera nob accustomed, good racing was vitnessed.
In the initial heat Coleman, Levy. Moore and Korn, with W. Reirdon coxswain, bent Baker, Knox, Bowles and WiUetts, with Colley coxswain. After a stirring contest Coleman won by hnlf a length. In the final Coleman's crew* met Tayne, Costello. Walsh and Judkins, who had drawn the bye. Coleman's crew led throughout and won by two lengths.
