LIGHTNING STRIKES CHURCH

" BALL OF FIRE ON ALTAR " An alarming phenomenon was lately reported from the Tuscan township of Massa Marittimn, in Central Italy. During evening service i."\ the cathedral on December 17, when the church was crowded with worshippers listening to a sermon by the local bishop, an exceptionally violent storm burst over the town, and the cathedral belfry was struck by lightning. According to an e.ve-witness, what appeared to be a ball of fire struck the altar of the Madonna of the Rosary and then zig-zagged through the church. It appeared to "go out through a side door and strike the roof of a neighbouring house." The worshippers were in a state of terror, all the electric lights being extinguished and the roof lit up with sparks and flashes. Panic was averted b.y the action of the bishop, who exhorted his congregation to keep calm.
