WORK AT RICCARTON
CONDITION OF INFLATION
GOLDEN WINGS VERY FIT
[by thleghaph—own correspondent] CHRISTCHURCII. Friday , The Riccarton tracks boro a busy appearance this'morning, bin. there was little fast work of interest. The inside of the triul grass was open and several horses were exercised 011 the plough. Inflation was given a strong mile and nquarter gallop, covering the distance in 2.14. Ho was accompanied by Henry of Navarre for half the journey and recorded 1.2 for the first five furlongs, but slowed down when alone. Ho could have, done better probably if ho had been ridden out. Inflation walked off apparently all right and there is every prospect he will go to the post fit and well to-morrow. Henry of Navarre was later uont over two hurdles, jumping both well. liodyline and Invoresk were sent from the five furlongs post, but after going a furlong Invoresk tailed off and Bodyline had a substantial lead at the post, which was reached in 1.4. Inveresk has not yet otarted in a rac.e and is evidently very green. Ranelagh strode over seven furlongs in 1.32 2-5, and his brother, Qurlinghain. reeled ofT half n mile along the back in 48 2-ss. Minerval, assisted by Arrow Rose, ran four furlongs homo in 49 2-ss. He is to tie ridden in the Cup by 11. Kirwan, who was engaged for him when Polydoru W.s withdrawn. The Woodvillo trainer H. E. Russell gave his team useful sprinting tasks, except Golden Chance, who has shown signs of soreness, and' will not be produced in the Welcome Stakes. Gipsy Love ran five furlongs in 1.2 3-5, Golden Wings the same distance in 1.3 2-5, and Drown Betty four furlongs in 50s. All went well, especially Golden Wings, who kept T. Green busy restraining him. Miladi and Prostration covered half a mile in 495, and Some Shambles recorded .48 2-ss. Some Shambles will be ridden by 11. Due in the Apprentices' Handicap. Niggerliead was sent out to work on the plough, but had to be pulled un half-way through owing to bleeding very badly, and he is a very doubtful starter to-morrow. This is the first time the big gelding lias suffered from this trouble.

ROCKET'S CUP CHANCE TRAINER'S PESSIMISTIC VIEW The majority of trailers with New Zealand Cup horses are fairly sanguine, but the exception is Albert Cutts, who, with his brother Harry, is in charge of Sir Charles Clifford's stable and is preparing Rocket- for tho two-miles race. In fact, he is most pessimistic, says a Wellington writer who is visiting Christchurch for the cup carnival. Discussing tho prospects on Wednesday, ho declared that Rocket would not be placed. "If Rocket has a chance," he said, "Palantua will win by from hero to the stables." However, he is a confirmed pessimist where his own horses are concerned. Last year he said Shatter would beat Fast Passage. A. E. ELLIS' SUSPENSION TERM REDUCED BY HALF [by TELEGRAPH—rKESS association] CHRISTCHURCH. Friday In the appeal of A. E.
