interesting wedding FAIRBROTHER—McCARTHY A wedding of unusual interest was solemnised at Apia on the o\ening of October 16, when Helen Constance, eldest daughter of Judge and Mrs. A. McCarthy, of Yaiala, and Monty, son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Fairbrother, of Otoroluinga, N(nv Zealand, were married by the Roy. H. E. Moren, Anglican chaplain in Samoa. The ceremony took place at tho Vaiala residence of the bride's parents, where a temporary chapel had been installed in the lounge. Friends of tho bride had achieved a striking decorativo scheme by the use j of tropical flowers and foliage. A wed- f ding bell of fragrant frangipanni, and , a carpet of tappa-cloth lent a typically Island touch to a picturesque setting. Tho bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a graceful gown of ivory satin, cut on long, slim-fitting lines, with an elbow-cape and long train edged with deep-pleated georgette. A sheaf of white tropical lilies was carried. Tho bridesmaids, Miss Patricia McCarthy and Miss Elso Klinkmueller, wore becoming frocks of pastel blue satin with elbow-capes and picture hats of satin and organdie to match. Both had bouquets of pink frangipanni and begonias. Flaine Hufnagel-J3etham, in a pink organdie frock and picture hat, and carrying a basket of antigna creeper was flower girl. The bridegroom, Captain M. C. Fairbrother, A.D.C., was attended by Dr. Mitford, of Apia Hospital. Mr. Christopher Dean played the utedding music. Later the bride and bridegroom received the congratulations of a host of friends, among whom were His Excellency the Administrator, Brigadier-General H. E. Hart, and Mrs. Hart, Mr. A. C. Turnbull (Secretary to the Administration), and Mrs. Turnbull, Chief Judge and Mrs. J. H. Luxford, tho Vice-Consul and tho Elove-Consul for China, and many persons prominent in civilian and official circles. There were also among the guests a number of visitors from tho United States naval station at Pago Pago, in America Samoa, who had come over in the TJ.S.S. Ontario for the happy event.. After the ceremony a reception and dance attended by more than 200 guests took place at Government House, Vailima —the historic home of Robert Louis Stevenson. The guests were received by His Excellency the Administrator and Mrs. Hart, Judge and Mrs. McCarthy, and Captain and Mrs. Fairbrother. Mrs. Hart wore a frock of blue lace and net, with a cape of silver braid, a silver toque, and carried a bouquet to tone, Mrs. McCarthy received in parchment satin, with picture hat to match, and carried a bouquet of cream frangipanni. The spacious ballroom at Vailima, the scene of manv brilliant gatherings, was attractively decorated with flowers and greenery, and dancing continued until a late hour. At supper several toasts were honoured. Among those present were: Mesdames A. C. Turnbull, J. H. Luxford, Mitford (Wellington), Huf-nagei-Betham, G. Klinkmueller, Latimcre (Pago Pago), Fulton (Pago Pago), Douglas (Pago Pago), Miss Williams (Pago Pago), Miss E. Goodwin, Mesdames Gotz, Mcßride, McKay, Gair, Brown (R.H.), Braisby, Fell, A. J. Tattersall, H. E. Tattersall, R. Tattersall, Johnston, H. I. Jones, ScottChisholm, P. Williams, Pound, Smythe, McClvmont, Moors, J. Johnston, Pleasants, Coster, Irwin, Mecham, M. E. Allen, Burnett, Mitchell, Andrews, Eden, Sheldon, Furrie, Meidicke and Lofley; Misses H. Macdonald, Lambio, Boss, Sheldon, Andrews and J. Johnston.

On the following morning the bride and bridegroom left Apia in the TJ.S.S. Ontario for Pago Pago, where they will be the guests of Governor and Mrs. Landenberger. Captain Fairbrother, who is a nephew of Brigadier-General Hart, will resume his official duties in Apia at an early date.
