FRAUD ON CUSTOMS
GERMAN IN BRITAIN HEAVY FINE INFLICTED . LONDON, Nov. 1 Cuno Diekhofer, 30, a Gorman, was fmod £3OBI for defrauding the Customs of £1275 by importing Gorman mechanical lighters without paying duty. The prosecution characterised the offence as an abuse of .British hospitality. The lighters were received in Dublin and smuggled to Ulster hidden in seats of motor-cars and thence brought to London. Diokhoft r also defrauded the Irish Free State Customs. The magistrate recommended Dickhofer's deportation, but the defence pleaded that lit did not want to return to Germany for political reasons.
