DOMINION'S CEREALS
DECREASES IN ACREAGE WHEAT AND OATS ESTIMATES [BY TELE GRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER] WELLINGTON. Thursday A return by tho Census Office of the areas and estimated areas of wheat, oats and barley shows that a decrease is expected in wheat and oats and an increase in barley. It is expected that in the coming season there will be 294,500 acres of wheat, compared with 305,924 acres last year. The area in oats is estimated at 3c'6,500 acres for the approaching season, compared with 424,587 year. The barley crop is estimated to come from 27,500 acres, compared with 23,476 acres last year. Of these areas, only 11,400 acres of wheat, 24,100 of oats and 3300 of barley are in the North Island, all the remainder being in the South. It is estimated that there will be 22,350 acres, of which 5500 are in the North Island, in potatoes this year. This compares with 24,605 acres of potatoes last year.
