The City Council last evening decided that it would not renew its agreement with the Australian Performing Rights Association, to which it pays fees in connection 1 with items produced by the Municipal Band and other civic musical bodies. This action was taken following a communication from the Municipal Association of Now Zealand to the effect that the quostion of paying performing rights fees to the Australian Performing Rights Association might have to be contested in tho near future unloss 'legislation was introduced. It, was stated the Wellington City Council did not pay any such fees and local bodies were advised not to admit the legality of the imposition by payment of the fees. The Finance Committer recommended that the council should decline to renew the agreement and this adopted.
