DANGER TO CYCLISTS

NO REAR REFLECTORS PROSECUTIONS IN COURT A number of prosecutions of cyclists for failing .to have reflectors on their machines or the back mudguards painted white came before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. The cases were a sequel to vigilance exercised recently on tlie waterfront road by officers of the traffic department of the City Council. The chief traflic officer. Mr. G. It. Hogan, said there was a grave danger to motorists and the cyclists themselves in not having the safety measures required. It was hoped that other cyclists would take warning fron'i the prosecutions already brought. The magistrate agreed that other cyclists should be warned, and should realise the necessity of observing the regulations. Some cyclists would evidently risk their lives for the sake of trivial expense. Fines of 5s and costs were imposed, but some cases were referred to the Children's Court.
