LAND FOR UNEMPLOYED
INVESTIGATIONS AT WAIHI SUITABLE AREAS AVAILABLE [nv TELEGRAPH —OWN (CORRESPONDENT] WAIHI, Wednesday Attention is now being directed to the Waibi district in connection with the Government scheme for placing unemployed ijien on the land, and indications are that several areas of idle Crown and other unimproved areas will be cut up for this purpose. An inspection of the country' about AVaiinata by Mr. A. H. Farrell, who represents the Land Board and has his headquarters at Paeroa, showed that an extensive block can be opened up and brought to a productive stage at a comparatively small cost, the flats and valleys for dairy farming and the undulating to broken country for cropping, sheep raising or grazing. Much of the land can be brought in without the 1 use of the plough, all that is Heeded being to burn off the fern and other growth, disc harrow, top-dress and sow grass, using clover seed freely, as clovers take wonderfully veil about these parts and provide an abundance of food pending the establishment of permanent pasture. Other areas about the district arc to be inspected, and it is understood thft't early steps will be taken to subdivide and cultivate some of the most suitable areas with money from the Unemployment Board's fund.
