GOLD ON WEST COAST
WORK AT MOONLIGHT SYNDICATE SECURES OPTION A report of another gold strike has come from the West Coast. The two men who made the find are Messrs. Tiffets and Halrahan, who have been prospecting at the confluence of the Moonlight and Nelson streams, near Blackball, for about 18 months. Samples of gold shown in Christchurch last week, which are said to have come from the claim, lead the prospectors to think that the area must be very rich. It is stated that the two prospectors made their lucky strike about three weeks ago, but since then an engineer has visited the locality on behalf of a Christchurch syndicate, which has secured an option over the area of 15 acres. The Moonlight bocjyne famous in the days of early gold rushes in New Zealand. For some time, from 800 to 600 unemployed have been working about this area, but, as one man says, the ground has only been scratched. It. is the intention to work the claim by sluicing, which can be carried out very cheaply, for ample water is available.
