KEEPING FLOWERS FRESH

At this season of the year, when flowers aro not very plentiful, it is useful to know how cut blooms for the house may bo kept fresh for the longest possible time. At night put all "your vases in a cool dark cupboard. If it is particularly desired to mako special blooms last for a special occasion, and the time and troublo can be spared, take the flowers out of the vases altogether and lay them in a box on damp cottonwool, putting the lid on afterward. Half-way through the week take all your flowers, put the stems up to the blooms in an enamel bowl filled with water, and leave for a whole afternoon and one night. Restore to vases. At the end of tlio week strip off any discoloured petals, gently blow into the middle of the flowers with warm breath, shorten all stalks, particularly of foliage. Rearrange in low bowls. On the tenth day put an asperin in each bowl or vase, and your flowers will last until the twelfth day.
