fiECENT DISQUALIFICATIONS DECISION BY STEWARDS BRISBANE. Juno 10 The connections of the racehorses Fragrant Zephyr and Pentheus Lave appealed against the disqualifications imposed on them on June 2. The stewurds, after hearing the evidence, removed the disqualifications in regard to Fragrant Zephyr, but dismissed the appeal by Brown, the owner, relating to Pentheus and also estreated his appeal fee of £2O. The disqualification on Ellis, jockey, however, was reduced to 12 months and his fee was returned. The stewards of the Queensland Turf Club held an inquiry on J una 2 into the running of the Sydney horse Fragrant Zephyr in the Trial Handicap at the recent Doom ben meeting. They decided to disqualify the horse, also C. Brown, the owner and trainer, and R. Ellis, the jockey, for 12 months. The stewards also inquired into the running of Pentheus in the Whinstanes Handicap on May 20. They decided to disqualify the horse. Brown and Ellis- for two years. Pentheus won the Doombon Cup in hollow fashion. CANTERBURY NOTES TRAINING AT RICCARTON SILVER RING'S PROSPECTS [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday There was a fairly large amount of work at Riccarton today, with only a few serious tasks executed by horses with engagements at Washdyko next Saturday. Imperial Spear and St. Joan ran from tho milo post to the half-mile in 53 2-ss, St. Joan gives signs of staying on. Polydora beat Rational 11. over six furlongs in 1.21 2-ss. The filly lightened up a little after her two races in the n,oft going at Wingatui. but will be in good trim again to fulfil her Waslidyke engagement. Don Jose and Royal Sceptre strode over a mile in 1.47. Royal Sceptre struck himself during the gallop and may not now race at Timaru. In any case, ho was booked for a spell after that fixture. Don Jose went well, as usual. Ranelagli and liartio were companions in a useful gallop over a mile. The former, in spite of his rider losing an iron, finished slightly in front in the good time of 1.44. Both should run well over a. mile and a-quarter at Washdyke. • Silver Ring was given his first sprint since the summer and reeled off half a mile in 51 2-ss. He is bearing a very bright appearance and there is every reason to expect him to strike his best form again. It is intended to race him at the Wellington meeting next month and if he shapes well lie will then be taken to Sydney for tho spring racing. Dorian, a three-year-old brother to Zee-bi-usse. has been sold by Sir Charles Clifford and was taken over to-day by D. O'Connor, who will train him for a southern patron. Since his return from the Dunedin meeting Ilounslow has been in a bad way. suffering from the effects of a severe cut in the coronet, taused by a twisted plate, in his race on the concluding day of the meeting. Concentrate has left Riccarton and most probably the turf. It was recently decided to retire him and he lias been sent to Nelson to be turned out. He cost Mr. J. Murphy 800gns. as a yearling and won just over £IO,OOO in stakes for him.
